Homeopathy is a holistic and completmentary medicine which can be safely used to treat and alleviate all kinds of illness. It is based on a set of principles which guide the practitioner in the art of homeopathic treatment.
These principles are set out below:
1. Vital Force: Living beings are kept in momentum by a vital force or energy. Homeopathy seeks to harness and balance this vital energy to restore health.
2. Susceptibility: This is another way of describing a weakness or disruption in our normal defence mechanisms. In order to be affected by infectious agents or negative situations we must be susceptible to them.
3. Miasmatic inheritance: These are our inherited predispositions to certain kind of illness. Family medical history shows what kinds of diseases run in the family.
4. Law of similars: This is the cornerstone of homeopathy. This law states that which has the power to make the healthy sick also has the power to make the sick healthy. Homeopathic treatment consists in finding the medicine that would produce in a healthy person the exact set of symptoms that the sick person is experiencing. In this way the immune system is stimulated to respond in a specific way, bringing about cure.
5. Provings: These are homeopathic drug trials and provide the evidence of the symptomatology of each homeopathic medicine.
6. Potentization: This is the process by which homeopathic remedies are made, involving dilution and succussion of the medicinal substance. The higher the potency the more subtle and powerful the medicine.
7. Minimum dose: In homeopathy the medicine is given in the smallest amount necessary to stimulate the vital immune response. Only one remedy is given at a time.
8. Totality: The complete picture of a person's illness is evaluated, including the mental, emotional and physical aspects of the person.
9. Direction of Cure: As treatment begins, the effects of the homeopathic remedy are assessed to ensure that cure is progressing in the right way, in the correct order and direction.
